I was introduced to this method of hand weaving in 2011 and immediately connected to it. It is a free style form of plain hand weaving which is appealing to new weavers due to its simplicity and to long-time weavers due to its sophistication.
After an introductory workshop in New Zealand, I visited and further studied Saori weaving at Saorinomori, the home of Saori in Izumi, Osaka. In Saori weaving practice does not make perfect or imperfect. It is a journey during which we weave our own unique creations. There is no “right or wrong” way, there are no mistakes, just “beauty with lack of intention”. The weaver becomes engaged in creating and designing as they go.
